My Reflections from Bangladesh Trip

1.Biggest and most important achievement was being able to now know what I want to do with my life. I always knew the purpose of my life is to give something back to the humanity. But I wasn’t sure if I wanted to devote my career towards this. This trip has made it vivid that “Yes” this is what I want to do.

2. I have been able to create a solid network of people, who are genuinely interested in giving something back to the people in need and helping me with my project. I have been able to approach people from a range of difference sectors and professions. This has given me a real confidence boost and I now feel more confident in approaching people. Some of the people I have met along the way:

  • Angela Gomes, Founder and Executive Director of Banchte Shekha;
  • and Professor M.A. Rashid (personal physician of Bangladesh Prime Minister);
  • Mahbubur Rahman, Executive Director of Amader Bari (an NGO for elderly and youth);
  • Philip Biswas, CEO of RRF;
  • Bulbul, Journalist – Ittefaq (one of the leading newspaper in Bangladesh);
  • Harun-or-Rashid, CEO of Lighthouse BD (an NGO supporting the disadvantaged in the community);
  • Mouluda Parvin, Lawyer of Jessore Judge Court;
  • Arif Zihad, Jago Foundation, Lead Volunteer – Khulna District;
  • Marike, Marketing Consultant; and
  • Many others.

3. I have been able to touch the hearts of many. I have realised, I have been blessed with some special quality to bring smiles to people’s faces, which is another reason why I believe I should be working in this sector. The feeling is mutual, I as love being around people and it gives me so much joy.

4. Friendship – I have been blessed with some friendship, which may take a lifetime for someone to gain. I have met a handful of amazing people, whose friendship I cherish and will last a lifetime.

5. A solid project concept o to begin with I was still trying to pin down a solid concept. All I knew I wanted to help the ones in need. However, after many consultations, sleepless nights and hair tearing, I think we have been able to come up with a fantastic concept, which we are thrilled about.

6. I have gained many skills and experiences which will be valuable additions to my current skillset. I have conducted large classes of 20-30 students, teaching English. I stood in front of the classes and confidently ran them and was able to keep the students engaged.

I have refined my meting skills and be assertive.

I have been able to give many speeches and presentations in a matter of minutes and connect with the audience. I skill I never thought I had.

7. I have re-established my love for music and art. I want to continue to practice these throughout my life. I have also realised music and art is a way to enter many people’s lives.

8. I have realised a person is capable of loving many, not just one or a handful. Human being has the power to spread love and affection for the good of all.

9. The conversations have started around the strategic planning of Banchte Shekha. People are starting to discuss about the real issues and how to resolve them. It has helped them revitalise strategic needs and reform priorities.

10. According to many people from Banchte Shekha, “The people of Banchte Shekha had reunited and apparently I am the reason”.
